Baseball Game Preview: Copan Hornets vs. Afton Eagles

The Copan Hornets will head out to square off against the Afton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Copan knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Afton likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Copan got the win against Bluejacket by a conclusive 12-1. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Chieftains recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Afton had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Nowata on Friday.

Afton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Victor, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Victor has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-10 otherwise. Josh Rhinehart also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Copan's record now sits at 11-7. As for Afton, their record is now 5-11.

Everything went Copan's way against Afton in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Copan made off with a 9-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
