Southside strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They claimed a resounding 56-12 win over the Keith Bears. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bears, too.
A big part of Southside's victory came down to the chemistry between Kole Moody and his top target Cedrick Simmons. Moody threw for 411 yards and three TDs while completing 74.2% of his passes while Simmons picked up 199 receiving yards and one touchdown. Simmons was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 50 yards.
Southside didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Camarion Allen, Simmons, and Derrick Surles picked up one apiece. Simmons' receiving production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 12th straight game with at least 101 receiving yards dating back to last season. Another thorn in Keith's side was Jailyn Gresham, who forced one fumble and made eight total tackles (6.0 for loss).
Southside's record now sits at 5-0. As for Keith, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Southside will head out to take on Hale County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,045 yards in their previous games. As for Keith, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Autauga Academy at 7:00 p.m.
