Softball Recap: Powell County's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Powell County was feeling good fresh off their 18-0 takedown of Owsley County on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Powell County fell just short of Berea by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Berea this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 back in April.

Kylie Shick put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Powell County's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-13. As for Berea, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Powell County will challenge Lee County at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Berea, they will square off against Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
