Baseball Recap: Northview Comes Up Short

Northview lost against West Florida back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Chiefs fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 3-1. That's two games in a row now that the Chiefs have lost by exactly two runs.

Jackson Bridges was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Northview saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kelan Jury, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Northview has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for West Florida, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northview will venture away from home to challenge Escambia County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chiefs are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for West Florida, they are taking a road trip to square off against Tate at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Aggies have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
