Basketball Recap: Jasper Wildcats vs. Evansville Central Bears
Jasper was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 45-35 loss to the Evansville Central Bears. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Evansville Central was led to victory by Daveon Smith and Zaryen Moore. Smith almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards, while Moore went 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Moore is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Patterson, who posted five points.
Jasper's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Evansville Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Jasper wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-49 defeat against Princeton on the 4th. As for Evansville Central, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Castle at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th.
