Basketball Game Preview: Estancia Bears vs. Tatum Coyotes

The Estancia Bears will face off against the Tatum Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Estancia is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Tucumcari on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Estancia lost 47-25 to Tucumcari.

Estancia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lucia Chavez, who posted seven points and four steals, and Brook Eister, who scored seven points and five rebounds. Chavez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Tatum came tearing into Saturday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Cardinals 50-32. The Coyotes pushed the score to 44-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.

Tatum's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.6 points on average over those games. As for Estancia, their loss dropped their record down to 15-13.
