Baseball Recap: Innovation Comes Up Short

Innovation and Gateway squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Innovation had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The Bulls were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 5-0.

Jometh Morales was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Innovation is 8-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Angel Berrios was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Tyler Nunez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Innovation's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Gateway, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-14.

Innovation does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gateway, they will square off against Sebring at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Streaks' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
