Bloomington South has won five straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Terre Haute North Vigo has won five straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Panthers will host the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Bloomington South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Bloomington South duked it out with Southport on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Cardinals 14-1. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Rachel Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Purtlebaugh, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Akasha Burton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Bloomington South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southport only posted a batting average of .071.
Meanwhile, Terre Haute North Vigo earned a 9-6 victory over Marshall on Saturday.
Like Bloomington South, Terre Haute North Vigo also got a great game from a two-way player: Kyleigh Walker. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Walker was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kara Salmon and Kenzie Zigler did most of the damage at the plate: Salmon went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Zigler went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Madi Strange, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Bloomington South's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bloomington South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Terre Haute North Vigo struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Bloomington South's way against Terre Haute North Vigo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Bloomington South made off with a 10-3 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
