Softball Recap: Spruce Creek Takes Down University in a Playoff Battle

Spruce Creek extended their postseason success on Wednesday against University. They put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 11-1 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Spruce Creek got a great performance from Aubrey Yeary as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Yeary has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexis Minaberry and Avery Helms did most of the damage at the plate: Minaberry went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Helms went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Andersen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Spruce Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Spruce Creek is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for University, they moved to 17-8 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
