Bozeman had won six straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 21-3 to make it seven. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wewahitchka Gators 7-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-7 back in March.
Carlee Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kinsey Bruhmuller was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Morris, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Bozeman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive contests.
As for Wewahitchka, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs.
On Wewahitchka's side, Severa Haney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits.
On the hitting side, Eden Rustin made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Paityn Suber was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Coming up, Bozeman will head out to take on Altha at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wewahitchka, they will host Arnold at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
