Softball Recap: Camp Verde Victorious

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Camp Verde). They won by a run and slipped past the Williams Vikings 9-8. This was payback for the Cowboys, who suffered a 13-11 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Reagan Statler and Aislynn Mulcaire made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Statler didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Mulcaire pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Statler went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI, while Mulcaire went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was Mulcaire's first of the season.

In other batting news, Clancy Murdock was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Erin Barton also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Camp Verde was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Camp Verde's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Williams, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Camp Verde will host Fountain Hills at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Camp Verde's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Williams, they will head out to challenge Kingman Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kingman Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Williams surely won't give up without a fight.
