Preview: DeSales Irish vs. Pomeroy Pirates
DeSales is 6-1 against Pomeroy since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The DeSales Irish will head out on the road to square off against the Pomeroy Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
DeSales entered their tilt with Touchet with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. DeSales simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Touchet 75-26 on the road. Given DeSales' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Touchet is ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pomeroy posted their biggest win since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They really took it to Colton for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-17 victory on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-6.
Oliver Severs and Kyzer Herres were among the main playmakers for Pomeroy as the former scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals and the latter scored 17 points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Trace Roberts, who scored ten points.
DeSales has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Pomeroy, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Everything went DeSales' way against Pomeroy in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as DeSales made off with a 63-41 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for DeSales since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
