Baseball Game Preview: Stone Memorial Panthers vs. Wartburg Central Bulldogs

The Stone Memorial Panthers will face off against the Wartburg Central Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Stone Memorial is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Stone Memorial duked it out with Livingston Academy on Wednesday. The Panthers came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 5-2.

Talyn Hurd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits.

At the plate, Stone Memorial's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gage Eldridge, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave Eldridge a new career-high. Drake Scarbrough also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wartburg Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Sunbright get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Wartburg Central's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Stone Memorial, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
