Baseball Recap: Battle Mountain Gets the Win

While Battle Mountain didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Moffat County Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Shaeffer Dodds8 made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Kai Tipton and Zach Irwin did most of the damage at the plate: Tipton went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Irwin went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Urijah Morales was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Battle Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moffat County only posted an OBP of .077.

Battle Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Moffat County, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
