Baseball Recap: Somerset Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Somerset ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Osceola Chieftains 10-9. Considering the Spartans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Kellen Donnelly made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Somerset is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise. Donnelly was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Somerset got a massive performance out of Rece Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Anderson has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Carson Belisle was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Somerset now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Osceola, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Somerset will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chieftains: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
