Baseball Recap: Oak Hill Comes Up Short

Oak Hill extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-17. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Warriors. The Red Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 8-3.

Hunter Elswick was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As for Riverside, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Riverside's side, Jayden Sparkman made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Sparkman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tug Eggleton, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eli Burke, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Hill will face off against Capital at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Riverside, they will square off against Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
