Recap: Cherryville Ironmen vs. Piedmont Community Charter Patriots
The Cherryville Ironmen's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell to Piedmont Community Charter 51-45. Cherryville found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
When it comes to explaining why Cherryville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Krista Davis. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with seven steals. The matchup was Davis' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Davis, who scored four points along with five steals.
Leading Piedmont Community Charter to victory were Addison Berry and Lyric Brown. Berry scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks, while Brown scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least 25% of Piedmont Community Charter's points. Allasha Houser was another key contributor, scoring three points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Cherryville has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Piedmont Community Charter, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-6.
Cherryville will head out on the road to face off against Shelby at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Shelby focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Tuesday. As for Piedmont Community Charter, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Valor Preparatory Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Valor Preparatory Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
