Baseball Recap: Progreso Comes Up Short

Progreso extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-13. They came up short against the Rio Hondo Bobcats, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 12-3 defeat back in March.

As for Rio Hondo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-15. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Rio Hondo's part, Christopher Galvan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Galvan is becoming a predictor of Rio Hondo's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 10-14 when he doesn't). Galvan was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Progreso has already played their next game, a 15-0 defeat against Lyford on the 18th. As for Rio Hondo, they will square off against Raymondville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearkats have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
