Softball Game Preview: Boyd County Lions vs. Blazer Tomcats

For the first time this season, Boyd County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blazer Tomcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Boyd County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Boyd County turned things around against Mercy on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Jaguars 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 2nd.

The team relied heavily on Savanna Henderson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Goad, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Boyd County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Blazer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hurricane.

Blazer's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Boyd County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Boyd County couldn't quite finish off Blazer in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
