Basketball Recap: Desert View Takes a Loss

If Desert View was riding high fresh off their 77-16 takedown of Catalina last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Desert View Jaguars took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pueblo Warriors on Thursday. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Desert View lost, don't look at Luis Felix. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Felix a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Beavers, who posted eight points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, Desert View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo only pulled down six offensive boards.

Among those leading the charge was Silverio Rivera, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 18 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Carranza, who put up six points and seven assists.

Desert View's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Pueblo, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert View will welcome Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Desert View is facing Douglas at the right time seeing as Douglas is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pueblo, they will host Buena at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
