Football Game Preview: Dublin Lions vs. Eastland Mavericks

Dublin hasn't had much luck against Eastland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Dublin is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tolar on Friday. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the defeat, Dublin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joe Salinas rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Eastland played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 70-31 loss at the hands of Brady. Even if the Mavericks couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.

Eastland's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Dublin, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 0-7.

Dublin was able to grind out a solid win over Eastland in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 35-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
