Softball Game Preview: Cypress Lake Panthers vs. Gateway Eagles

The Cypress Lake Panthers will take on the Gateway Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Cypress Lake's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Gateway has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Cypress Lake turned things around against East Lee County on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jaguars a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the match before.

Audrina Westland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baylee Spano, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzy Stouffer, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cypress Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Gateway lost 11-4 to Cape Coral on Tuesday.

Cypress Lake's win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Gateway, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
