Baseball Recap: Tooele Buffaloes vs. Cedar Reds
Tooele extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 6-20 in the process. They came up short against the Cedar Reds, falling 15-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Reds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-6 on Friday.
As for Cedar, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.
For Cedar's part, Cooper Payne spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits. Payne has become a key player for the Reds: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 9-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gavin Mackert, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Collin Corry was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Tooele does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cedar, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 13-2 defeat against Park City on the 8th.
