Preview: Covenant Day Lions vs. Gaffney Indians
The Covenant Day Lions will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Gaffney Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Covenant Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday.
Covenant Day entered their tilt with Concord Academy with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Covenant Day secured a 52-48 W over Concord Academy.
Covenant Day can attribute much of their success to Tyree White, who scored 13 points, and Chris Rivens, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elijah Green, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Gaffney pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their tough 83-57 defeat to Moravian Prep might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Gaffney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 72nd in South Carolina, while Moravian Prep is ranked first in North Carolina).
Covenant Day is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Gaffney, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
