Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Cumberland Valley's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

After losing to Mifflin County the last time they met, Cumberland Valley decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Huskies on Wednesday.

Curtis Shinn tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Crosby, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

Cumberland Valley has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Mifflin County, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.

Coming up, Cumberland Valley will square off against Northeastern at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mifflin County, they will challenge Mechanicsburg at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huskies 2.3, the Wildcats 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
