Basketball Recap: Alan Ly's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Balboa over Athenian

Balboa played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 70-46 to the Athenian Owls. The Buccaneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-8.

Several Buccaneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alan Ly, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points and seven steals. Ly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Hart, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds.

Athenian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Patleo Koffi, who posted 20 points. Teni Salako was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Balboa's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Athenian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Balboa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-47 loss against Drew on the 6th. As for Athenian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-50 defeat against Lick-Wilmerding on the 6th.
