Football Recap: Connor Hatfield Key Part of Team Effort in Blue Jays Win

The matchup between Liberty and Liberty North on Friday hardly resembled the 13-10 effort from their previous meeting. The Blue Jays strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 38-22. The Blue Jays pushed the score to 31-9 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Liberty's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Connor Hatfield, who rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 31 yards and one TD. Colt Nolin was in the mix too, providing the Blue Jays with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Liberty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 245 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty North only rushed for 90 rushing yards.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxen Proden, who picked up 108 receiving yards and one TD. Proden got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 77 yards. Mikai Williams was another key player, picking up 89 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Liberty's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Liberty North, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Liberty will look to defend their home field on Friday against Warrenton at 7:00 p.m. As for Liberty North, they are taking a road trip to take on Lee's Summit West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
