MaxPreps Player of the Year leads 12-player group to compete in Hungary in July.
USA Basketball has
picked its U17 Women's National Team and the roster includes the MaxPreps National Player of the Year, a number of All-Americans and the Sophomore Player of the Year.
Juju Watkins of
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) is among 12 players who will compete at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary, from July 9-17.
In addition to Watkins, the squad includes All-Americans
Mikaylah Williams of
Parkway (Bossier City, La.),
Jadyn Donovan of
Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.),
Hannah Hidalgo of
Paul VI (Haddonfield, N.J.) and Watkins' Sierra Canyon teammate
MacKenly Randolph.
Jaloni Cambridge of
Ensworth (Nashville, Tenn.), the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year, is one of four 2024 players to make the team.
The U17 National Team also includes
Sunaja Agara,
Madison Booker,
Morgan Cheli,
Breya Cunningham,
Kennedy Umeh and
Jada Williams.
The team was selected from 40 invitees by the USA Basketball Developmental National Team Committee and represents players from the Classes of 2023 and 2024. Sue Phillips of
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) leads the coaching staff that also includes Tom McConnell and Brittany Johnson.
Booker, Cambridge, Cunningham, Donovan, Watkins and Jada Williams helped the USA U16 team bring home gold at the 2021 FIBA Women's U16 Americas Championship, beating Canada 118-45. Mikaylah Williams won gold at the 2021 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.
The United States has won the U17 World Cup four of the five times it's been held.
