Basketball Recap: Winfield Takes a Loss

Winfield suffered their biggest defeat since February 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 64-26 loss at the hands of the McPherson Bullpups. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Bullpups are ranked 22nd).

When it comes to explaining why Winfield lost, don't look at Christian Moree. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 42.3% of Winfield's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Gavin Estes also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for McPherson, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Winfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-45 loss against Wellington on the 17th. As for McPherson, they will be taking part in a tournament against Manhattan at 7:45 p.m. on January 23rd. McPherson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Manhattan likes a good challenge.
