Basketball Recap: Deer Valley Takes a Loss

Deer Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 67-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monte Vista Mustangs. The Wolverines were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Deer Valley lost, don't look at Marcellis Thomas. Despite the final result, he shot 77% from the field on his way to 23 points and five boards. With that strong performance, Thomas is now averaging an impressive 16.3 points per game. Raja Dunbar was another key player, putting up eight points.

Deer Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Monte Vista, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Deer Valley will take on Foothill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monte Vista, they will square off against Bellarmine College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
