Recap: Sultana Sultans vs. Burroughs Burros
The Sultana Sultans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 66-50 bruising from Burroughs. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sultana in their matchups with Burroughs: they've now lost nine in a row.
Several Sultans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leland Price, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Price continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kenyon Peters, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Among those leading the charge was Cory Kent, who scored 16 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Eduardo Perez, who scored 15 points.
Sultana has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Burroughs, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sultana will challenge Oak Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oak Hills presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sultana in California (Oak Hills is ranked 255th, while Sultana is ranked 1054th). Burroughs won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Victor Valley at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th.
