Softball Recap: Northview Comes Up Short

Northview extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 11-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Knights have suffered since April 10th.

Maggie Krause spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they pushed their record up to 23-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games.

On Terre Haute North Vigo's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Jaleigh Lindley gave up a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Terre Haute North Vigo's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kyleigh Walker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Coming up, Northview will take on Edgewood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they have already played their next game, a 22-2 victory against Southport on the 21st.
