Softball Recap: Boyne Falls' Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Forest Area, Boyne Falls was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Wolverine Wildcats by a score of 9-6. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Loggers as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mackenzie Brown spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauryn Matelski, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Elleana Loper, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Boyne Falls' win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Wolverine, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Boyne Falls has already played their next game (against North Michigan Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Wolverine, they will face off against Atlanta at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
