Softball Recap: Anderson Indians vs. Kokomo Wildkats
Anderson extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Kokomo Wildkats. The Indians were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildkats from their previous meeting back in May of 2022.
Alli Southerland was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
As for Kokomo, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-10. Considering they have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Kokomo's side, Emma Lees made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lees was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Alaina Thompson was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lanaya Buckner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Anderson will take on Mt. Vernon at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Kokomo, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lafayette Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. on the 27th.
