The Hillsdale Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Lucas Cubs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Lucas took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hillsdale, who comes in off a win.
Hillsdale was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lexington, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since April 26th.
Kyle Turk made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kael Lewis, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. Colton Mosher was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lucas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Mt. Gilead.
Like Hillsdale, Lucas also got a great game from a two-way player: Jack DiBartolomeo. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. DiBartolomeo also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lucas is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise. DiBartolomeo was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
DiBartolomeo wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bobby Grover, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Lucas' loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Hillsdale, their record is now 12-8.
Hillsdale was able to grind out a solid win over Lucas when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 9-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
