Basketball Recap: New Albany Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, New Albany couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Newton County Cougars by a score of 71-68 on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (59), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why New Albany lost, don't look at Issac Gilbert. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Gilbert's seventh in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylan King, who went 8-for-14 on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, New Albany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

New Albany's defeat dropped their record down to 21-8. As for Newton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

As of now, neither New Albany nor Newton County have any future games scheduled.
