Basketball Recap: Payson Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bourgade Catholic last Wednesday, Payson came back down to earth. The Payson Longhorns took a blow against the Benjamin Franklin Chargers on Friday, falling 70-33. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Payson lost, don't look at Dane White. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Those 16 points gave White a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Omar Fierro-Nava, who posted seven points and five boards.

Bennett Christensen had an outrageously good game for Benjamin Franklin as he went 8 for 9 on his way to 18 points. Christensen continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Christensen, who put up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Payson's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Benjamin Franklin, they pushed their record up to 23-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Payson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-37 defeat against Northwest Christian on the 1st. As for Benjamin Franklin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 50-48 win against ALA - Ironwood on the 4th.
