Baseball Recap: Lick-Wilmerding Takes a Loss

Lick-Wilmerding extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-11 in the process. They came up short against the Saint Mary's Panthers, falling 10-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2017.

Nathaniel Emerson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Saint Mary's, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-16. They not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 18, 2024 (when they won 8-0).

On Saint Mary's side, Julian Connell and Ashton Riley were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Connell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Riley struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Connell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Connell went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run, while Riley went 2-for-3 with one triple and one double. That's the most RBI Connell has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Damien Nolan was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Saint Mary's is 2-1 when Nolan posts one or more home runs, but 5-15 otherwise. Lucas Nitsan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Lick-Wilmerding will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against San Domenico at 3:30 p.m. Saint Mary's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
