Football Recap: Cumberland Clippers vs. Woonsocket Villa Novans
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 35-0 win over the Woonsocket Villa Novans. The Clippers pushed the score to 21-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Villa Novans had little chance of recovering from.
Evan Spencer was his usual excellent self, rushing for 144 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 51 yards and a touchdown. He is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another big playmaker for Cumberland was Martin Kelly, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Cumberland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 263 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2023.
The victory got Cumberland back to even at 5-5. As for Woonsocket, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
