Basketball Recap: New Caney Takes a Loss

New Caney was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 49-27 to the Caney Creek Panthers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-27 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Caney Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mackenzie Harrah, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Harrah a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kyra Rosencran, who posted six points and nine rebounds.

New Caney's loss dropped their record down to 6-26. As for Caney Creek, they pushed their record up to 8-20 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

New Caney and Caney Creek could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. New Caney will take on The Woodlands at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 887 places (1169 vs. 282). Similarly, Caney Creek (ranked 986th) will meet Conroe (ranked 411th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
