            Softball Recap: New Providence Pioneers vs. Union Catholic Vikings        
        
		
        
        
            New Providence hadn't done well against Union Catholic recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way  on Wednesday. The Pioneers walked away with  an   11-6  victory over the Vikings. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won  11-9  on April 3rd.
 Ella Celoski was a  major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she  tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned  (and five unearned) runs off   six  hits. Celoski was also big at the plate,  going 1-for-3 with one  stolen base and one  run.

 In other batting news, New Providence got a  massive  performance out of  Haley Kessler, who  went 3-for-5 with one  home run, two  stolen bases,  and two  runs. Kessler has been hot recently, having  posted  at least one  stolen base the last three times she's  played.  Jiselle Mateo was another key player,  going 2-for-4 with five  RBI, one  stolen base,  and one  run.
The  win made it two in a row for New Providence and  bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those  victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Union Catholic, they have  traveled a rocky road recently, having  lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record  this season.
 New Providence will take on Union at 4:00  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Union Catholic, they will face off against Oak Knoll at 12:00  p.m.  on Saturday.
