Softball Recap: Unaka Rangers vs. West Greene Buffaloes

In what's become a running theme this season, Unaka gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. Everything went their way against the West Greene Buffaloes as the Unaka Rangers made off with an 18-4 win. The victory was familiar territory for Unaka who now have three in a row.

Kimberly Proffitt looked comfortable as she tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (she also only allowed one walk).

At the plate, Unaka let Taylor Grindstaff and Mollie Buckles loose on the outfield. Grindstaff scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Buckles went 3-for-5 with a home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Buckles is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Katlyn Dugger, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3.

On West Greene's side, Alexis Cutshall made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Amanda Owens, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Unaka now has a winning record of 6-5. As for West Greene, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Unaka will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against University at 5:00 p.m. Unaka will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
