League recap: League leaders St. Joseph's and Elkhart Central to clash this week

Northern Indiana league recap: 5/7/12

On May 14, 2012, the top two teams in the current league standings will go head to head, as St. Joseph's and Elkhart Central meet. The Indians currently hold a -0.50-game lead over the Blazers for first place.

Matt Gibson was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .533 average with three RBIs. Meanwhile, Marian put together a 3-2 week.

The Knights boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. Marian has given up a mere 77 hits on the year in addition to compiling 62 strikeouts. Drew Hasler is the leader in that category with 14 Ks on the season.

The Knights's Gibson finished his week with eight hits, tops in the league. On the season, he's hitting .359 and ranks fifth in the league with 14 hits.

Marian's Drew Hasler threw six shutout innings in a 7-1 win over Adams on May 2, 2012. He struck out three, allowing four hits.
