Preview: Union Spartans vs. Hobbton Wildcats

Union is 9-1 against Hobbton since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Union Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hobbton Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

After a string of three wins, Union's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 59-34 loss at the hands of North Duplin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Union in their matchups with North Duplin: they've now lost nine in a row.

Ariyona Spearman put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 17 points. That was a full 50% of Union's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zadariyah Faison, who scored five points along with four steals.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Hobbton, who are still winless after their 12th game. They took a serious blow against Lakewood on Tuesday, falling 53-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Hobbton has suffered against Lakewood since February 13, 2020.

Despite the loss, Hobbton had strong showings from Katie Britt, who scored seven points, and Madison Sinclair, who scored six points.

Union's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4. As for Hobbton, their defeat was their 17th straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-12.

Everything came up roses for Union against Hobbton when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 55-19 victory. Will Union repeat their success, or does Hobbton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
