Football Recap: Pensacola Catholic Piles Up the Points Against Freeport

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pensacola Catholic). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 58-17 win over the Freeport Bulldogs. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 371st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Ethan Crandall, who rushed for 214 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Jasso, who picked up 53 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pensacola Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 231 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Pensacola Catholic's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Bryce Cannon and Tripp Dalton, who racked up four sacks between them. Dalton is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Despite the loss, Freeport still got an impressive performance from Julius Miles, who picked up 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The victory (which was Pensacola Catholic's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points over those games. As for Freeport, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Pensacola Catholic didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-0 victory against Destin on the 3rd. As for Freeport, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Walton at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Seahawks' defense has only allowed 12.4 points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
