Baseball Recap: St. Rita Victorious

St. Rita came out on top against Marian Catholic on Sunday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Mustangs walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Spartans. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Peyton Panozzo made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Rita is 6-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-15 otherwise. Panozzo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evan Blake, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

St. Rita's victory bumped their record up to 14-18. As for Marian Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-22.

St. Rita and Marian Catholic could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Mustangs will take on Sandburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (154 vs. 29). Meanwhile, Marian Catholic (ranked 256th) will meet Bradley-Bourbonnais (ranked 98th) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
