Softball Recap: Waterford Victorious

While Waterford didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Elkhorn Elks by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Wolverines, who suffered a 17-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Waterford got a great performance from Libby Schoepke as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Jaydin Kiser and Abby George did most of the damage at the plate: Kiser went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while George went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave George a new career-high. Peyton Reinke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Waterford's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Elkhorn, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Waterford will take on Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Elkhorn will be paying especially close attention to the Wolverines' game: after the Wolverines face off against the Demons, they'll take on Elkhorn again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
