The Sherando Warriors will square off against the Skyline Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sherando is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Sherando fell victim to Fauquier and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 1-0. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Lilian Wray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sherando saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madalyn Cox, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Skyline, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Kettle Run by a score of 7-3 on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Skyline also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Mackenzie McIntyre gave up three earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for McIntyre.
On the hitting side, Kinley Llewellyn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Kaitlynn King was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Skyline's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Sherando, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Skyline's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Sherando has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 strikeouts. Will Sherando keep running through batters, or will the Hawks buck the trend?
Sherando couldn't quite finish off Skyline in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 10-8. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
