Cibola is 8-1 against West Mesa since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars will square off against the Mustangs at 8:00 a.m. Cibola is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Cibola is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Alamogordo, who was ranked third at the time (Cibola was ranked 22nd). The Cougars fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-5 on Thursday.

Angelica Baca was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, West Mesa beat Bloomfield 14-10 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Cibola's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for West Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.

Everything went Cibola's way against West Mesa in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Cibola made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
