Football Recap: Dunbar Starts off Right with Win over Cypress Lake

Dunbar had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 28-20 victory over the Cypress Lake Panthers. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dunbar to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tylen Gore, who rushed for 138 yards and one TD while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. BRANDON SEABROOK was another key passer, throwing for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Dunbar was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Dunbar's defense and their ten sacks. The heavy lifting was done by OJAVION THOMAS and David Iglesias, who racked up six sacks between them. Ja'Quise Fuller was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Although Cypress Lake took the loss, they still got scores from Jaydon Henderson, Zayne Kimpland, and Javirin Singleton.

Dunbar will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Island Coast at 7:30 p.m. on September 5. As for Cypress Lake, they will face off against Pahokee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
